McConnell, a lifelong Brea resident, has been competing in motorcycle speedway racing since 1974 and has consistently competed – and won, a lot – on the sport’s biggest stages. He finished third out of 19 finalists at the 45th U.S. National Speedway Championship in Costa Mesa on Saturday in front of an estimated 8,000 spectators. Shawn has raced in 5 different countries and won 4 U.S. Open championships.
