By the age of 14, Putty was a member of the Santa Barbara Motorcycle Club, racing MX, Dirt Track, Hill Climb and Speedway. He also raced cars and wood rimmed bicycles on concrete ovals. Putty served his country, 1941-45 in Patton’s 3rd army and as a civilian for the space program, building the lunar Grover training vehicle and training the astronauts for Apollo missions 15-17. Putty’s last ride on a speedway bike was on his 100th birthday.
