Rich turned pro in 1979, H earned National #80 in 1982 and held that #80 until his retirement in 2008. He started racing Hondas for Garvis Honda in 1995, the year he won his first AMA Pro National. He went on to win a total of 19 AMA Pro Nationals. He was a Harley Davidson Motor Company factory sponsored racer for 7 years. Rich and his son Aaron and are the only known father and son to have competed in an AMA national main event on the same day.
