Motorcycle Legends Eddie Mulder, Terry Vance Named to 2022 Hot Shoe Hall of Fame Honors

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Dec. 7, 2021) – Motorcycle racing legends Eddie Mulder and Terry Vance are the latest inductees into the 2022 edition of the “Hot Shoe” Hall of Fame and will be honored in the second annual “Hot Shoe” Motorcycle Industry Celebration on Saturday, Jan. 29, at Las Vegas’ Notoriety Theatre in the Neonopolis portion of the Las Vegas Fremont Street Experience (450 E. Fremont St., 3rd Floor).
The two motorcycle icons will have their “Hot Shoe” Hall of Fame plaques on display with other Hall of Fame members including the initial 2022 “Hot Shoe” inductee, Speedway racing legend Ivan Mauger,
at the Hall of Fame Museum in the Gene Woods Racing Experience at Fremont Street.
“We are extremely pleased to honor two motorcycle racing legends entering the ‘Hot Shoe’ Hall of Fame with Eddie and Terry’s induction,” said Woods, founder and curator of the “Hot Shoe” Hall of Fame. “Both guys made a big name in their respective motorcycle fields with Eddie in TT, flat track and desert racing and Terry in drag racing. Even after their racing careers, both were instrumental in promoting motorcycle racing with series and race team competition. Thanks to Eddie and Terry for their two-wheel contribution.”
Mulder, the Lancaster, CA-based racer, film stunt rider and race promoter, established himself as a national flat track and TT Steeplechase star in the 1960s and winning the renowned Big Bear Grand Prix in 1960 against over 500 Hare and Hound motorcycle competitors.
Riding a Triumph for most of his racing career, Mulder is credited with winning six AMA District 37 championships. In 1965, Eddie took the Grand National Championship TT at Peoria, IL. Mulder is the only racer to win the Triple Crown of TT racing in a single year in 1966 with AMA national victories at Peoria, Castle Rock, WA, and Ascot Park (Gardena, CA).
Mulder has won the Pikes Peak Challenge Motorcycle Vintage race at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb seven times. Eddie’s movie and television career began in 1969 as a cast member or stuntman in seven movies from the 1970s through the 90s including Magnum Force and Grand Theft Auto. He also filmed music videos, some print-work, plus numerous television commercials for Dodge, Mercedes Benz, Toyota, Jeep etc.
Mulder was also inducted into the American Motorcyclist Association Hall of Fame and the Trail Blazers Motorcycle Club Hall of Fame. Mulder is still involved in racing with his own racing series, now in its 20th year, “Eddie Mulder’s West Coast Dirt Track Series,” runs several events throughout California.
Vance, born in Virginia and grew up in Southern California, began racing his motorcycle at Lions Drag Strip in Southern California in the early 1970s when he was just old enough to drive.
It was at Lions that Vance would meet Byron Hines, who was building Vance’s bike at the time. With Vance’s riding talents and Hines' engine-building and tuning ability, the two formed the most famed pairing in motorcycle drag racing. He formed their own company, Vance & Hines, in 1980.
The company is best known for building custom exhaust systems and other motorcycle parts and accessories. Vance & Hines quickly grew into one of the world’s largest aftermarket motorcycle companies.
In 1984, Vance recorded the first six-second pass in Top Fuel Motorcycle, a 6.98 at Orange County Int'l Raceway and later ran the first seven-second pass in Pro Stock Motorcycle, a 7.990, at Dallas in 1987.
Vance earned 27 NHRA national event victories in Top Fuel Motorcycle and Pro Stock Motorcycle, and his 101-21 record in Pro Stock Motorcycle eliminations ranks among the sport's all-time best, regardless of class. He has also remained a highly visible figure in motorsports after his retirement from riding. In addition to the Vance & Hines business, he operated a successful AMA Superbike team with Yamaha and later the Ducati brand. Vance was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1999 and was named to NHRA’s Top 50 Drivers list in 2001.
More recently, Vance helped guide the motorcycle careers of Hines’ sons, Andrew and Matt. Andrew secured his sixth NHRA Drag Racing Series Pro Stock Motorcycle world championship in 2019, and Matt, a three-time Pro Stock Motorcycle world champion, serves as crew chief of the Vance & Hines team.
The grand opening of the ”Hot Shoe” Hall of Fame took place last May when some 900 guests attended a star-studded affair with motorcycle legends from around the world were presented with their “Hot Shoe
Hall of Fame” plaques and many were interviewed on stage to talk about their motorcycle experiences.
The Cycle News historic racing motorcycle display also will be at the Jan. 29 event as the “Hot Shoe” Hall of Fame event ties in with the annual Mecum Motorcycle Auction at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The “Hot Shoe” is the symbol that recognizes the cream of the crop of motorcycle racing stars who used a very specialized tool, the steel shoe, to assist them in navigating the dirt track corners at very high rates of speed. Steel show equipped riders quickly became known as “Hot Shoes” in local and national events and markets where they competed.
An added attraction on Jan. 29 will be the highly acclaimed feature film by director Peter Starr, “Take It To The Limit,” which will be shown to attendees at the Notoriety Theatre on Jan. 29 to highlight several of the “Hot Shoe” Hall of Fame inductees featured in the movie.
Located on the Fabulous Fremont Street in Las Vegas, the “Hot Shoe” Hall of Fame is part of the Las Vegas Fremont Experience and adjacent to the Gene Woods Racing Experience Indoor Electric Race Car Track (450 E.Fremont St., #171, Las Vegas). For those accepted into the Hall of Fame, the honorees’ “Hot Shoe” is mounted on a Hall of Fame plaque. Recipients also receive their own version 8x10 plaque.
