In 1967 Lloyd began racing AMA novice professional and by September placed 3rd at the Sacramento National. The next year he won the Pacific Coast Junior Championship on the Ascot half mile. He was a weekly Friday night racer at Ascot Park. Lloyd was always in the top ten riders of the Ascot season points championship. Lloyd died at the San Jose half mile championship, May 20, 1973, leaving behind a wife and son.
