LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Jan. 18, 2022) – Legendary Larry Huffman, known as “Supermouth” for decades in the Speedway and Supercross motorcycle races, has been named the 2022 Maely Award recipient for his Lifetime Achievement to the motorcycle sport and will be awarded the honor on Saturday, Jan. 29, in the second annual “Hot Shoe” Motorcycle Industry Celebration at the Las Vegas’ Notoriety Theatre on the famed Las Vegas Fremont Street Experience (450 E. Fremont St., 3rd Floor).

Huffman, who announced the first Supercross event at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on July 8, 1972, brought his unique, electrifying announcing style to the early Supercross races and was initially known as the “Voice of Supercross.” Larry, also a member of the AMA Hall of Fame, is recognized by all Supercross, Motocross and Speedway fans around the world.

Costa Mesa Speedway promoter Harry Oxley recruited Huffman for his packed Friday night Speedway motorcycles races at the Orange County Fairgrounds and Larry became a major part of the attraction with his fame “Huffman Hop” in introducing the riders in the main events. Larry was the host of the first Supercross TV programs produced by John Bradley Entertainment for ESPN as well as countless other nationally syndicated U.S. and international broadcasts in the 1970’s and 1980’s. He also was known for his many radio and TV commercials through the nation.

In addition, Huffman made numerous racing lines which are still used some 50 years later like “He is tougher than two-dollar steak,” “He's on him like a Hare Krishna member on an airport traveler,” “He slid by him slicker than a mayonnaise sandwich,” and “No damage except to his underwear.”

Huffman joins Judy Maely (2020) and Kenny Roberts (2021) as the third member of the “Hot Shoe” Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement to the motorcycle industry award.

In addition to Huffman’s Lifetime Award, over 80 new inductees will be a part of the 2022 class for the “Hot Shoe” Hall of Fame when this year’s event gets underway on Saturday, Jan. 29, with the Cycle News Motorcycle display at 4 p.m. and the popular “meet and greet” celebration at 6 p.m.

“We are very excited to add the legendary Larry Huffman to our ‘Hot Shoe’ Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Awards with Judy Maely and Kenny Roberts,” said Woods, founder and curator of the “Hot Shoe” Hall of Fame on Las Vegas’ Fremont Street. “Larry was such a great announcer and character to the motorcycle industry with his unique style and bringing the crowds into the on-track action. Larry gave the spectator a different view with his wild announcing and fun sayings. We honor him this year for his great contribution to the motorcycle racing.

” Last May, Woods, the “Hot Shoe” Hall of Fame Board of Directors and his staff produced a big grand opening of the “Hot Shoe” Hall of Fame when some 900 guests attended a star-studded affair of motorcycle legends. The Cycle News racing motorcycle display opens this year’s affair which also ties in with the annual Mecum Motorcycle Auction at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The “Hot Shoe” is the symbol that recognizes the cream of the crop of motorcycle racing stars who used a very specialized tool, the steel shoe, to assist them in navigating the dirt track corners.

An added attraction on Jan. 29 will be the highly acclaimed feature film by director Peter Starr, “Take It to The Limit,” which will be shown to attendees at the Notoriety Theatre on Jan. 29 to highlight several of the “Hot Shoe” Hall of Fame inductees featured in the movie.

Located on the Fabulous Fremont Street in Las Vegas, the “Hot Shoe” Hall of Fame is part of the Las Vegas Fremont Experience and adjacent to the Gene Woods Racing Experience Indoor Electric Race Car Track (450 E.Fremont St., #171, Las Vegas). For those accepted into the Hall of Fame, the honorees’ “Hot Shoe” is mounted on a Hall of Fame plaque. Recipients also receive their own version 8x10 plaque.
